Chinese Automotive company ‘BAIC’ who started their work in 2018, has decided to launch BAIC D20 Sedan in Pakistan.Acquired “Category A-Greenfield Investment Status” of Sazgar Engineering Works (the makers of 4-stroke CNG rickshaw) under the Auto Policy 2016-2021 in March 2018. The company is already in the development phase to introduce a wide range of vehicles which includes D20 hatchback, X25 crossover and BJ40 SUV which were also displayed at the PAPS 2020 expo in Lahore this year.
In order to enter into sedan category, Sazgar launch BAIC D20 sedan which is equipped with the same engine as its D20 hatchback variant has. People already spotted test drives of BAIC cars on roads, however company has not given any specific timeline to introduce these vehicles in Pakistan.
The director marketing at Sazgar-BAIC said:
“The organization has chosen to introduce a sedan version of D20 hatchback. Sazgar D20 Sedan offered in 1.3L and 1.5L engine with metallic paint, alloy wheels, air bags, day-time running lights and parking sensor coming as standard, much the same as its hatchback variant. nonetheless, it will cost same as the Suzuki Cultus.”
BAIC D20’s 1.3L and 1.5L engine producing 100 and 113 horsepower respectively. The 1.3L variant will be available with a 5-speed manual transmission however 1.5L variant has two options one is manual and the other one is 4 speed automatic transmission.
We can say, that this D20 sedan will be a complete package as it has prominent features like dual airbags, alloy rims, parking sensors, daytime running lights, a smart infotainment system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) technology, immobilizer system, electronic throttle and headlight leveling and adjustment. A better option than Suzuki Cultus in 1.9 million.
Ali Hameed has high expectations with BAIC vehicles because of their lower price tag and obvious quality can give a tough time to the existing competition.
“We have it on great authority that Sazgar-BAIC will bringing a SUV (BJ40), a crossover(X25), and a sedan/hatchback(D20). BAIC BJ40 is a SUV, a 4×4 with a 2.0 liter Turbo engine with 215hp and 6-speed automatic transmission with petrol engine. The vehicle may compete with the KIA Sportage and Tucson. We can say that the Fortuner will also be a competitor of this variant due to the superior horsepower of the turbo engine. At the point when this variant is propelled, its fairly estimated worth will be around Rs 7 million.”
It seems like BAIC vehicles will provide a promising quality in reasonable prices. This new Automotive player will likely dreadful competitor of prominent sedans like Toyota Yaris, Honda City however, we have to see that Sazgar can build up their presence across the country or just like United and Regal will be contented to sell these vehicles in selected areas of Punjab. We hope Sazgar who is about to launch BAIC D20 Sedan in Pakistan will be a game changer in Automotive industry.
